Jangan sangsikan musikalitasnya, karena dia juga berasal dari keluarga yang gemar seni, khususnya musik. Ayahnya, Pete, seorang New Yorker, adalah pemain perkusi. Ibunya, Bernie, berdarah Filipina keturunan “Puerto Rico”, adalah seorang penari hula. Penyanyi asal Hawaii, Bruno Mars tampil charming di majalah pria, GQ Edisi April dengan gaya flamboyannya yang sangat khas.

Dalam wawancaranya, penyanyi bernama asli, Peter Gene Hernandez ini membeberkan cerita kisah hidupnya dulu yang ternyata seorang alkoholic.

  'Dulu ku benar-benar suka mabuk. Kini aku terus berusaha untuk melupakan minuman. Selama bertahun-tahun aku jadi pemabuk yang telah merusak hidup dan karierku, Tapi untungnya sekarang aku sudah menyadari, gaya hidupku yang dulu tidak baik dan sedang berusaha merubahnya menjadi lebih baik lagi sekarang' Ujar Bruno.

Setelah sukses album 'Doo Woop & Hooligans' di tahun 2010, Bruno memang sempat break cukup lama, album keduanya 'Unorthodox Jukebox' baru selesai dan rilis pada bulan Desember 2012, butuh waktu 2 tahun baginya untuk berjuang antara menyelesaikan album dan kecanduannya pada alkohol.

'Susah sekali bagiku untuk menciptakan lagu-lagu yang ada di album ini. Aku ingin lagu ini tak hanya bagus tapi lebih dari itu. Aku ingin lagu-laguku menjadi lagu hebat seperti 'Bohemian Rhapsody', 'Billy Jean', 'Smells Like Teen Spirit', dll.
